1891 Redwork Quilt pattern Vol 3

This is the third in the series of patterns taken from this absolutely charming redwork quilt top. It is finished on all sides, but has no backing and, therefore, no batting or quilting. The patterns are also available for the entire quilt, including the whimsical embroideries along the borders, if you prefer to buy the pattern as a whole. This is shown in the Redwork Boxed Set. Envelopes, shown as "volumes" of at least 6 patterns each and printed on iron-on transfer paper may chosen if you prefer to embroider just a few of the designs.

With a date of 1891 embroidered in one of the blocks, it is created with a variety of motifs - wreaths, animals, children, vignettes, and one wreath block surrounds the words "Cleveland and Sherman". Being they were running mates, researching this quilt has been interesting! The borders are scattered with adorable little motifs, also. As you stitch your blocks you'll discover the whimsey and charm of the embroideries!

Each block is 8 1/2" and the entire quilt measures approximately 70" x 70" including the borders. The Volume 3 envelope includes the eight blocks pictured, printed on transfer paper. In addition, a color sheet is provided showing close-ups of the actual, antique blocks, along with graphics of the stitches used. Instructions for using the transfers and additional tips are printed on the envelope back.

The original quilt is embroidered in a "red" floss that actually has a pink tinge to it. I have found a Presencia floss that matches so closely it took my breath away when it arrived! The quilt would also be lovely in blue embroidery floss or even in a multiple of colors! The embroideries could be framed, made into wallhangings, used on pillows, tea towels - the uses are endless. Use your imagination!
